YPP can’t manipulate Obi-Datti supporters in Akwa Ibom – LP chieftain
They’re in desperate Alliance of failure – PDP Umo Eno/Akon Eyakenyi Campaign Council
The desperate efforts by the embattled Young Progressives Party, YPP, Governorship candidate, Senator Bassey Albert to secure an alliance with the Akwa Ibom Obi-Datti supporters has hit the rocks as a Labour Party, LP, chieftain, Chief Sunny Dike has described the move as an attempt to manipulate their base which is dead on arrival.
Chief Dike who said the YPP was in an unholy alliance with the All Progressives Congress during the February 25, Presidential and National Assembly polls to deflate the Labour Party Presidential candidate, Peter Obi’s votes in the State will now make a volte face to seek an alliance with Obi-Datti supporters after the YPP realized the failed woefully in the said outing.
Whereas the APC was able to secure a Senate seat and one House of Representatives seat all in Akwa Ibom Northwest (Ikot Ekpene)Senatorial District, the YPP could not win anything significant and their Governorship candidate who was convicted by the Federal High Court Uyo for corruption charges and jailed lost his Federal Constituency.
Dike said such manipulative politics of now trying to curry the support of Obi-Datti supporters after their poor showing is not going to work. He advised the YPP to face reality which stares them in the face and stop grandstanding when they are barely on ground to win any Local Government Area convincingly.
The party chieftain said the Labour Party in the State has fielded candidates for the upcoming March 11 elections and will not enter into any alliance that will rub off negatively on the party.
In a related development, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has dismissed the denials of the crisis-ridden All Progressives Congress, APC of having an alliance with the YPP as amusing.
In a statement signed by Prince Chris AbasiEyo, Spokesperson, PDP/Umo Eno Campaign Council, the panic and distress in the opposition camp was noted while the said alliance was described as that of failure.
The statement read in part, “In any case, the PDP is not disturbed whatsoever about any alliance of failure. The PDP resoundingly won the presidential National Assembly elections in Akwa Ibom State and the two opposition parties were nowhere close even with their combined votes. In addition to its victory in the presidential election, the PDP won two of the Senate seats and seven of the 10 House of Representatives seats. On the other hand, the APC won just one Senate seat and one House of Representatives seat. The YPP failed to win anything. Election is yet to be concluded for two House of Representatives seats and the PDP is still in contention for those seats.”
The statement therefore tasked the YPP to brace up for the impending defeat come March 11 and stop day dreaming about the alliance of small parties to her advantage.
