End of the road for Bassey Albert: frontline supporters, media team dump guber candidate for wild goose chase
Supporters of the convicted governorship candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), Obong Bassey Albert, have reportedly dumped their principal for Mr. Michael Enyong who recently obtained a controversial order from a Federal High Court in Damaturu naming him candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP.
A source close to the party chairman, Apostle Nyeneime Andy, said the status of their candidate (convict) has been an issue of serious concern for the past one month as the Appeal Court is yet to commence hearing on his appeal.
The source, who didn’t want his name mentioned, said although the deputy governorship candidate of the party, AIG Asuquo Amba (rtd) and Hon Samuel Effanga, a former Commissioner for Science and Technology and frontline supporter of Albert had first raised the issue and advised the party to seek a replacement, the leadership of the Akwa Ubokabasi campaign organization is yet to do so.
He noted that while Amba had withdrawn from activities of the party including campaigns, Hon Effanga, and some others who share same sentiments, had long moved on to holding several nocturnal meetings with other candidates, adding that Effanga who, evidently, had conspired with his former principal, Mr. Enyong, to forge the Result of the Governorship Primary Election of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) held in Uyo on May 25, 2022, was quick to return and realign immediately with him.
Similarly, a member of one of the media teams of the Akwa Ubokabasi campaign organization has disclosed a change of focus by the team on its platform from promoting Albert to promoting Enyong and his activities.
Although he was not clear if the change in focus was a directive from the campaign organisation of YPP or the candidate himself, he however said when members of the team drew attention of its leadership to the change in focus, the group’s administrator, Ishmael David, simply instructed them to follow the trend as they were yet to officially merge with anyone or party.
He said that the media team has been mandated to embark on marathon blackmail and propaganda against Pastor Umo Eno, who they said, was cruising to the Hilltop Mansion.
