Police may declare Michael Enyong wanted over documents forgery
The People Democratic Party, PDP, in Akwa Ibom State has officially submitted a detailed petition to the Akwa Ibom Commissioner of Police, against Mr. Michael Enyong, alias Babantan, a member of the House of Representatives, HoR, accusing him of forgery and demanding for his investigation and prosecution.
In the two-page petition signed by Uwemedimo Nwoko, SAN, Counsel to the PDP and officially received by the Commissioner Of Police on February 2, 2023, the PDP stated that Mr. Enyong: “deliberately conspired with his cronies and cohorts namely Dr. Idongesit Henry, Hon. Samuel Effanga, Mr. Monday Sampson, Dr. Ubong Fidelis Ufot, to forge the Result of the Governorship Primary Election of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) held in Uyo on the 25th May, 2022”.
Not only that. The PDP also stated in its petition that in forging the said result of the governorship primary election, Mr. Enyong also “forged the signatures of the Principal Officers of the Party”. The signatures forged by Mr. Enyong, according to the petition, were that of Senator (Dr.) Iyochia Ayu, National Chairman of PDP, Senator Samuel N. Anyanwu, National Secretary of PDP, Hon. Umaru M. Bature, National Organizing Secretary of PDP as well as the signatures of the Returning Officer and the Electoral Officer.
According to the PDP petition, the authentic 2022 Gubernatorial Electoral Committee for Akwa Ibom State was chaired by Philip Asiosu, the incumbent deputy governor of Edo State, and other members of the Committee included Dr. Kabiru Usman, Hon. Mamman Pele Usman, Hon. Stephen Ibrahim Asya, Barr. Karen Njoku, Hon. Mariam Baba and Barr. Edward Ayo Odubesan. This authentic Committee was communicated to the PDP in Akwa Ibom via a letter to the State Chairman dated the 23rd May, 2022, from the PDP National Headquarters.
The petition therefore said Mr. Enyong and his cohorts “mischievously circulated forged documents both within Akwa Ibom State and outside claiming that he (Mr. Enyong) was the winner of the PDP Governorship Primary Election held on the 25th May, 2022 in Akwa Ibom State”. He (Mr. Enyong) also “used the same forged documents to obtain Judgement of a competent Court of Law”, the petition said.
Attached to the petition were copies of the letter that appointed the PDP Governorship Primary Election Committee, the Authentic Result of the PDP Governorship Primary Election held on May 25, 2022 and the copy of the forged result used by Mr. Enyong to obtain a court judgement.
The PDP therefore demanded that “Hon. Michael Enyong be promptly apprehended and prosecuted alongside his cohorts for this heinous crime”.
It would be recalled that Mr. Enyong conducted a separate governorship primary for himself inside his own residence in Ewet Housing Estate, Uyo, while the official PDP Primary was ongoing in the State-owned International Stadium known as Nest Of Champions.
