Guardian Newspaper Regional Editor Bags Excellence Reportage Award
Safe Child Africa, a Non-Governmental Organization based in the United Kingdom in collaboration with the Basic Right Counsel Initiative, (BRCI) has honoured Senior Comrade Anietie Ben with excellence reportage award for contributing to ending witchcraft branding in Africa.
The ceremony which took place on Monday at the Ernest Etim Bassey Press Centre, State Housing, Calabar.
The award was presented by the leader of the team, Basic Right Counsel Initiative, (BRCI), Barr. James Ibor who is also the Secretary of Administration of the Criminal Justice Monitoring Committee, SCJMC, Cross River State.
Speaking on the award, Barrister Ibor, said though the award was not contested for, selection was based on contributions, adequate research and excellent reportage to end witchcraft branding in Africa within Akwa Ibom and Cross River state.
Barrister Ibor also said the main aim of the award is to spur the recipient and other Journalists to do more for society as they remain the watchdog of society as people still look up to journalists for a better future.
In his remarks the award recipient, Comrade Anietie Ben said he did not expect the award describing it as “thoughtful and prestigious award””.
While enumerating his experiences during the research, Ben said it has paid off and thanked the initiator of the award, Safe Child Africa for finding him worthy for the award.
He noted that the award will spur him to do more to humanity and his profession.
Ben admonishes his colleagues and other aspiring journalists to brace up efforts and serve society through adequate reportage.

The ceremony was well attended by Veteran Journalists, and other members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Cross River State Council.
