I supported Udom in 2015 with over N30 million – Nya-Etok
…says he is not a serial Guber contestant in Akwa Ibom
…Insists second round of zoning must start from Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District
By Emmanuel Ufon
Akwa Ibom State Gubernatorial candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Arc. Ezekiel Nya-Etok, while clearing air on the misconception in some quarters that he is a serial gubernatorial contestant, said he supported Governor Udom Emmanuel with over Thirty Million Naira hard-earned money in 2015 and did not contest any election.
Nya-Etok made the explanation during an enlarged press conference with journalists and social media influencers at the ADC Arena in Uyo.
He made it known that he did not contest the Akwa Ibom State governorship election in 2011, and 2015 as misconstrued in some quarters.
Nya-Etok who is also the progenitor of social governance ideology in Nigeria said the reason some people misunderstood him for a serial contestant is not unconnected to the fact that he is always heard in the state.
“Do you know why people think I’m always contesting election? there is no year that I’m not heard loudly in Akwa Ibom State assisting in one way or the other, it is on rare occasion in Akwa Ibom State to hear someone’s name except when he or she is contesting for an election.
“I spent over thirty million of my hard earned money supporting Gov Udom Emmanuel in 2015, 2011 I didn’t contest for governorship election so where did they get this notion that I’m always contesting election. In 2019 I took my social governance ideology to the ballot searching for a party that will adopt and in the absence of non, I test run in preparation for 2023 election,” he said.
Asked of his seriousness ahead of the general election as most of the candidates for the 2023 gubernatorial election are from Uyo senatorial district, Nya-Etok argued that zoning must start from Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District, referencing from the former governor of Akwa Ibom State, Obong Victor Attah and Senator Godswill Akpabio’s perspectives.
“Obong Attah in his zoning perspective believes that there are three ethnic nationalities in Akwa Ibom State – it started in Uyo Senatorial District ( predominantly Ibibios) after that to Akwa Ibom North West ( Ikot Ekpene) Senatorial District predominantly Annang people with the understanding that it should go to Oron after Ikot Ekpene turn in the ethnic nationalities perspective which in a family arrangements refers to the first, second and third son sharing formula.
“So the zoning formula according to Obong Attah’s ethnic nationality started with Ibibios, to Annang it should have entered Oron but entered Ibibio again, after Annang turn, I can give an explanation why it should not have entered Ibibio again.
“Akpan took its first turn hands over to the second son, and recollect again (Through Gov Udom Emmanuel’s administration) instead of giving to Oron people for their turn according to Obong Attah’s perspective so if I don’t take it from the turn for Ikot Ekpene people while preparing to handover to Ibibio to handover to Oron the zoning arrangements will not be move smoothly according to Obong Attah ethnic nationalities of Akpan, Udo and EtokUdoh.
“It can not be Uyo! Uyo! Ibibio! Ibibio for sixteen (16) good years again the baton must change.
“Let us look at Godswill Akpabio’s perspective of Senatorial District zoning formula – in Senatorial District we are all equal for example in Bayelsa only two local government area makes up a Senatorial District and that doesn’t make a Senator in the district inferior to a Senator in Akwa Ibom with with ten local government areas.
“In Senatorial District zoning arrangements we are all equal on like that of the ethnic nationality no first or second son preference so we are all equal so let’s see that of Akpabio’s Senatorial District preference!
“Taking example from sharing three pieces of meat on the table, the first person picks, second person picks and the third person picks at round one, in round two anybody have the right to start the pickings in round two it’s either Ikot Ekpene or Eket Senatorial District will start the round two and not Uyo Senatorial District will start the zoning again,” Arc Ezekiel Nya-Etok noted.
