Patients, pregnant women stranded as University of Uyo Health Centre shutdown over COVID-19 scare:
Hundreds of patients, including pregnant women and nursing mothers are stranded at the University of Uyo Health Centre located at the institution’s Town Campus, following the abrupt closure of the Health Centre over COVID-19 scare.
Morenews investigation has it that although the University of Uyo Health Centre primarily provides health services to students, staff and staff family members, it is also open to the public, rendering routine services such as Consultation, Medical certification, Ante-natal care, Family planning, General surgery, Medical and laboratory services, Out-patient and in-patient care as well as Environmental and preventive health services.
The UNIUYO Health Centre was closed down after it was learnt that a COVID-19 patient was unknowing treated at the hospital last week.
Morenews authoritatively gathered that there was a pandemonium at the Health Centre when the information broke out early this, forcing the medical doctors and nursing attached to the medical facility to scamper for safety and went into isolation, leaving the patients, including pregnant women, who visited the hospital for maternity, stranded.
Before the University of Uyo Health Centre was shutdown over COVID-19 scare, an eyewitness told Morenews that a pregnant woman on labour was sighted at the facility weeping profusely after she realise that there was no doctor and midwife to attend to her.
