NUT strike: Akwa Ibom suspends 2022 academic activities in public schools, directs students to stay at home
The ongoing strike by teachers in Akwa Ibom State has forced the state Ministry of Education to suspend all academic activities in public primary and secondary schools.
Consequently, the “Commissioner for Education, Mrs Idongesit Etiebet , hereby directs pupils and students in public primary and secondary schools across the State to stay at home pending notification for resumption by the Ministry”.
This contained in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Lady Rose N. Bassey for the Commissioner.
“In view of the declared strike in the State by the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Akwa Ibom State wing, the Honourable Commissioner for Education,Mrs Idongesit Etiebet , hereby directs pupils and students in public primary and secondary schools across the State to stay at home pending notification for resumption by the Ministry of Education
“Parents and Guardians are by this directive advised to regulate activities of their children and wards while at home by ensuring they are focused on reading their books.
“The Honourable Commissioner wishes to assure all concerned that the State Government is on top of the situation and is working very hard to ensure agitations and grievances are amicably resolved as soon as possible,” the statement read.
