A frontline aspirant for Eket Senatorial District Race in the 2023 National Assembly elections, Rt Hon.(Barr.) Ekong Sampson has highlighted some cognate areas where his legislative and political experiences will prove invaluable if elected to represent Eket Senatorial District in the Nigerian Senate.
Dr Sampson’s senate ambition has received profound approval in the oil rich Eket Senatorial district, with major stakeholders and chieftains describing him as ‘most fit’ for the senate job.
Barr. Sampson began his political sojourn in the Senate when he served as Special Assistant/Chief Legislative Assistant to Senator Udoma Udo Udoma between 1999 – 2003.
He went on to become Head of Council, Mkpat Enin before later representing the area in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly for two terms.
He also had a very sterling outing at the State Executive Council serving as Honourable Commissioner in key ministeries as well as Special Adviser, Political and Legislative Affairs to Governor Udom Emmanuel.
Speaking this morning on a local radio station, Planet FM, hosted by Sampson Akpan, a.k.a Politics Today, Barr. Sampson said that considering his rich legislative and political background, he was eminently well placed for the Eket Senate seat:
”Zoning favours me. Zoning favours Mkpat Enin where I come from. The indices of legislative and political experience favour me too’, he spoke with assuredness.
As a renowned bridge builder, Dr Sampson said he will take on the Senate race with same verve of bridge building, describing the Senate as the melting pot of the nation’s democracy:
‘The Senate is the epicentre of democracy in Nigeria. It is a place that demands not only a strong legislative experience, but a good knowledge of the sociopolitical workings of the country. I am well equipped in these aspects’.
The former State Lawmaker, who holds a Ph.D in Law spoke passionately about Eket Senatorial District and how the region can harness its great potentials:
‘You cannot tell the Nigerian story without mentioning Eket Senatorial District. We are richly endowed with both human and natural resources. It is time to place the senatorial district in its rightful position of our national discourse’, he said, pledging to give the district, profound representation.
Barr. Sampson also reiterated his earlier position on politics and policies to ensure a good balance is achieved:
”We must use policies to drive politics and not politics to drive policies’, adding that it was time Nigerians began to look at political aspirants from the contents of their brain and not for empty sentiments.
Dr Sampson took out time to praise Gov Udom Emmanuel’s dedication to developing Akwa Ibom State. He said that ‘whether in or outside the State Exco, he will continue to support the Gov. Udom Emmanuel’s government to succeed’, maintaining that Gov Udom Emmanuel has good intentions for Akwa Ibom State.
Barr. Sampson in the studio also said that he has alluded to the wealth creation campaign agenda of Pastor Umo Eno and urged Akwa Ibom people to pay attention to his wealth creation message. He equally reechoed his calls for issue based campaigns in the state.
Dr Sampson, while in the State Executive Council was a regular guest in the programme, Akwa Ibom Mandate.
