Akwa Ibom Assembly suspends Local Government Chairman over fraud, misconduct
The Executive Chairman of Mkpat Enin Local Government Area, Hon. Aniekpon E. Ekpo has been suspended by the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly on the grounds of gross Misconduct/fraud.
The Vice Chairman, Hon. Lady Mercy Bassey is directed to take over as the Acting Chairman of Mkpat Enin LGA with immediate effect pending the conclusion of the investigation by the committee.
It could be recalled that the embattled Chairman was called out by a section of Mkpat Enin Legislative Council over activities they termed ‘not in tandem with due process’ sometimes last year.
Today, two more petitions have been forwarded to the House by Mkpat Enin Legislative Council and the matter handed over to an Adhoc-Committee chaired by Rt. Hon. Aniefiok Dennis of Etinan State Constituency for further investigation.
Meanwhile, the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs chaired by Rt. Hon Mark Esset has submitted its report on the investigation on the earlier petition submitted by some members of the Legislative Council.
