The House of Representatives Committee on Niger Delta has come up with another face-saving stunt, seeking to repair what is left of its mangled reputation.
Carrying out a parallel probe is to undermine the forensic audit of NDDC. Not only is it awkward, it is a frontal attack on President Buhari’s Niger Delta policy, especially his attempt to crackdown on corruption while sanitizing and resetting the NDDC. It is expected that any outcome of the hoax will be discarded.
Most Nigerians believe that members of the House of Representatives Committee on Niger Delta are belligerent; they will flagrantly abuse oversight powers and manipulate the probe in order to exonerate persons, including some lawmakers and their friends, who have perpetrated fraud and corruption at the NDDC.
Until the House of Representatives failed in its recent attempt to investigate and scuttle the current Interim Management Committee (IMC) of NDDC, the retroactive probe was never a considered option. In fact, it came as an afterthought deliberately put in action to dare and railroad President Buhari into calling off the ongoing forensic audit of NDDC. It is a clear demonstration of corruption fighting back.
Fearful that corrupt and fraudulent actions by some Committee members will be established, the PDP led House of Representatives Committee on Niger Delta is very desperate and will stop at nothing to discredit the ongoing forensic audit of NDDC
