Breaking: Police nab man, 23 over rape, attempted murder in Akwa Ibom
A 23 year old man simply identified as Akpan has been arrested by the men of the Nigeria Police, Ikot Ubo Station, Oruk Anam Local Government Area, for an alleged attempted murder and rape.
Akpan, it was gathered, around 7am today lured a 13 year old JSS 3 student identified as Peace Archibong from the same Ikot Ubo village, who was on her way to school, into bush with an intent to rape her after several failed love advances.
Peace who fought the battle of her life, resisted the devil incarnate. Realizing that he could not have his way on the innocent girl, he brought out a knife in his pocket, slit her throat and then abandoned with the hope that she has died.
However, God was on the side of the innocent girl and she survived and braced up to find her way out of the bush and made it to the road and raised the alarm.
This attracted passersby who rushed her to Cottage Hospital, Obio Akpa where she is currently receiving medical attention.
Meanwhile, Akpan who has confessed to commiting the crime, is cooling his feet in Police custody while FeREP, a pet project of the wife of the State Governor, Dr Mrs Martha Udom Emmanuel has taken over the case.
A police officer in the area who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the arrest of the alleged rapist. He, however declined further comments on the taken over of the case, saying that he is not in a position to speak.
