Ikot Igwe Civic Centre, Okon Essien Udim LGA, Akwa Ibom State, was yesterday, Monday, October 11, 2021, filled to capacity as friends, relatives, political allies joined the Lambert family to bid the former State Chairman of the defunct National Republican Convention, NRC, Dr Lambert Mark Udoh farewell at the memorial lecture organised in honour of the colossal Politician and Engineer by Mboho Nto Okon (MNO), a socio-cultural organisation in Okon Clan, Essien Udim LGA.
According to the Coordinator of the Memorial Lecture, Distinguished Professor Celestine Ntuen, the lecture was organized to immortalize the legacies of the colossus.
In his keynote address tagged “Lambertian Thoughts on Engineering and Politics: Reconstruction the Absence of an Icon using his Professional Footprints”, the Vice-Chancellor of Ritman University, Distinguished Professor Celestine Ntuen, described the patriarch as “the colossal and an enigma of engineering profession and politics”
He added that late Dr Lambert was “great in all that he did in life: in education and in the practice of politics.”
Prof Ntuen stated that despite his attainment and achievement in the engineering profession, politics and many other accolades in life, Late Lambert maintained a modest and simple lifestyle.
“”Being modest as he was, he did not want to sing about his many accolades such as the first Okon son (maybe in Essien Udim LGA) with a PhD degree in Industrial and Operations Research (1979). The first Okon son (maybe in Essien Udim) to serve as a chairman of a major political party as in the National Republican Convention in Akwa Ibom State (1990-1992) with sole administration of the State Party in the absence of a Governor from March 1993-November 1993. The first Okon son to serve as a Member of the National ConstituentAssembly (1988-1989). The first Okon son to contest for the Senate (2006) The founder of LAMDA Construction and Engineering (1992-Death),” Prof Ntuen submitted.
Dr. Lambert Udoh: His Contributions in National Politics
In his eulogy on the topic, “Dr. Lambert Udoh: His Contributions in National Politics” Sen Ibok Essien said Late Dr Lambert was one of the finest politicians in Nigeria who had immense contributions to the political development of Akwa Ibom and Nigeria at large.
He noted that as a member of the National Constituent Assembly, Dr Lambert contributed immensely to nation-building and left indelible marks.
According to him, Dr Lambert was one of the founding members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nigeria and instrumental to the development of the party (PDP) in Essien Udim adding that he was consistent, loyal, devoted and committed to the success and stability of the party in the state.
Dr Lambert Udoh: His Leadership in Engineering Project Management and Party Politics
Speaking on the topic, “Dr Lambert Udoh: His Leadership in Engineering Project Management and Party Politics, Senator (Dr) Chris Ekpenyong, Senator Representing Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District, said Late Dr Lambert was a great manager of people, resources and leader of leaders.
He stressed that he was not found wanting at every sphere of assignment he found himself while urging that his lifestyle should be a perfect example and lesson to the young engineers and those who studied engineering management as well as operational management.
“This clearly shows that you can be a good engineer and also a good manager of men and resources,” he remarked.
Sen Ekpenyong recalled that Dr Lambert Udoh was made a managing director of Hymark Nig. Ltd (a subsidiary of Earth Sciences, Data Sciences and Obodex Nig. Ltd owned by our great son and our motivator, Otuekong Don Etiebet) because of his outstanding educational qualifications and the identified inherent leadership traits.
“Now that he has transited to the great beyond, we sincerely miss him but we are happy that a lot of us that had contact with him have been endeared by his character and attitude to life. He was a very contented person, community leader, a builder of communities, a great family man that loves his family till the time he left this world,” Ekpenyong said.
Dr Lambert Udoh: His Contributions in Akwa Ibom State Politics
For in his lecture entitled, Dr Lambert Udoh: His Contributions in Akwa Ibom State Politics Abom Tony Esu said, Late Dr Lambert was a courageous but gentle and easy-going politician who had made a tremendous impact in politics and socio-economic development of the state.
Esu continued that as the State Chairman of the defunct National Republican Convention (NRC) in Akwa Ibom, Obong Lambert worked hard to ensure the success of his party in the state.
He stated that Dr Lambert was a figure in the state who played significant role at different stages of politics in the state and also contributed to political stability in Akwa Ibom.
While acknowledging Dr Lambert’s support to his senatorial aspiration, he added that the departed political icon had groomed many and brought them to the political limelight.
Dr Lambert Udoh: Contributions to Essien Udim Politics
On Dr Lamberts Contributions to Essien Udim politics, the Local Government Council Chairman, Mr Anthony Luke said the death of Dr Lambert Udoh is painful and sad to the entire Essien Udim people.
He stated that Dr Lambert was a pillar of support to both Essien Udim Local Government Council, Okon Ward and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP whose good pieces of advice will be missed.
The Council boss added that as a PDP caucus member in Essien Udim, Late Dr Lambert was a bridge builder and a stabilizing force for the party who has contributed to the stability and success of the party in the local government.
While acknowledging the support and contributions of the colossal politician and engineer to his emergence as local government Chairman, Luke described Dr Lambert as an epitome of peace.
Dr Lambert Udoh: Contributions to the advancement of Annang Politics
In his opening remarks, Dr Etido Ibekwe, who described Late Dr Lambert Udoh as “a loyal Annang son” who will stop at nothing for the advancement of the progress of Annang Nation said he had been a major contributor to various resounding decisions made in the polity in furtherance of the political progress, peace and tranquility in Essien Udim.
“It is on record that Dr. Lambert Udoh stepped down to contest primary election to the senate in 2006, conceding same to the Ikono/Ini Federal constituency for the sole purpose of allowing an Annang son to emerge as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),” Ibekwe recalled.
The former House of Assembly member described the action of the icon as “a palpable sacrifice for the Annang Nation!”
Dr Lambert Udoh: His Contributions to the Political Development of Okon Ward
On Dr Lambert Udoh’s contribution to Okon political Socio-economic development, Chief Barr Imo-owo Okpokpo posited that Dr. Lambert had given Okon Clan a name in Politics.
“Whenever a Political Tower anywhere emerges, the first question people ask is “where does he come from?” In his sojourn in National, State and Local Government Politics, Okon Clan could not be divorced being mentioned as his Clan of origin. This is what we stand to Miss by his demise. ‘That man, Dr. Lambert Udoh from Okon Clan is now no more,” he lamented.
He also noted that as a Political Leader of Okon Ward, Dr Lambert demonstrated charisma and dexterity in managing the affairs of the party in the Ward and always making sure his party win the councillorship seat of the ward.
According to him, Dr Lambert Udoh was instrumental in the division of Okon Ward into 3 political zones of 6 villages to enhance rotational councillorship in the ward which he said has reduced scrambling, rancour, and bitterness in the polity.
He asserted that Dr Lambert Udoh was a symbol of unity among Okon People and always work hard to ensure that the people live in peace and harmony.
Dr Lambert as “Adaha Okon”
In his tribute to the late politician, the Clan Head of Okon, Obong Bassey Johnny Akpan described Late Dr Lambert Udoh as an illustrious son of the land who contributed in no small measure to the development of the clan.
The Royal father said, Dr Lambert was honoured with the traditional title of “Adaha Okon” and also admitted into Okon Traditional Council because of his numerous achievements for Okon people and contributions to the betterment of humanity.
He regretted that Lambert’s departure at a time Okon people need him most and pray God to give Okon Clan another Lambert to fill the vacuum he has left behind.
Late Obong Dr Lambert Mark Udo: Reminisce of the Village Boy and the Moral Imperative of life
Speaking on Dr Lambert Udoh’s childhood, Dr N. J. Nenty and Sir Patrick Udoudo described the late politician and engineer as a humble and visionary young man who grew up to become a great man.
“In summary, Late Dr Lambert Mark was a man of great simplicity in everything. He was always modest, unassuming and visionary. But was he able to realize his ambitions in politics, as an engineer, to his people and chains of relations that looked to him? Not all mortals do because of the extraneous variables impinging on professionals especially politicians,” the posited.
They stated that Okon people, Essien Udim and Akwa Ibom will greatly miss the patriarch whom they said was, “the patient politician and engineer who would not respond to abuses and insults””
