Governor Umahi slams Fani-Kayode over comments on his defection to APC demands retraction
As Nigerians continue to react to the recent defection of Mr. Femi Fani-Kayode (FFK) from the main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, the Governor of Ebonyi State, Dave Umahi, has refuted the assertion by the Former Minister of Aviation, that he was instrumental to his (Umahi’s) defection to the APC.
“I think he needs to withdraw that statement, he’s my good friend but, it was an insult on my person and the other governors,” Umahi said on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday.
“The man did not know when I moved, but incidentally he visited me and we discussed, and he said he was coming to join me with the other governors to declare.
“How will somebody in the PDP be instrumental to my moving?” he queried.
Recalled that the former minister while speaking on his defection said he was “led by the spirit to defect to APC”.
He also asserted that he was wooing three additional governors from the major opposition party to join the governing party.
The former PDP chieftain named Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, and Governor Ifeanyi Uguanyi of Enugu State are among those he owed to APC.
He stated it was up to people to form their own opinions on his trustworthiness as a result of his frequent switch of political parties.
Fani-Kayode, a lawyer, was a fierce critic of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration. Between 2003 to 2006, he served as former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s Special Assistant on Public Affairs.
In 2006, the new APC member served as Minister of Culture and Tourism for a few months before becoming Minister of Aviation later that year
