The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila, has challenged the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio to published the names of lawmakers who are beneficiaries of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) contract including details of the contracts within 48 hours.
The ultimatum was issued by the speaker during Tuesday house plenary, a day after the minister claimed that most of the contracts awarded by the NDDC were awarded to lawmakers.
The speaker threatened to employ the full weight of the law against the minister should he fail to published the names within the stipulated time.
Senator Akpabio who claimed that he has record to show how names of the beneficiaries of the NDDC contract however, stated that most members of the committee knows nothing about the said contract but the two chairmen of the Committee on NDDC uses the name of the members to obtain contract from the commission without executing them.
he stated this while responding to the summon by the house for him to appear before the House Committee Public hearing of the probe of the alleged mismanagement of N40 billion from the commission.
Asked how the lawmakers benefited, he said, “I just told you that we have records to show that most of the contracts in the NDDC are given out to members of the National Assembly”.
