Akwa Ibom Village Head, Two Others Detained Over Alleged Criminal Offences
Village Head of Ifa Ikot Akpan, Eteidung Aniedi Ebong and two other members of his community are cooling off in detention over alleged criminal offences.
The trio were said to have been invited by the COMPOL Surveillance Unit of the State Police Headquarters, Ikot Akpan Abia, owing to criminal allegations.
Newstrack gathered that the Village Head, Eteidung Aniedi Ebong; the Village Council Chairman, Edidiong E. Ubit and the Youth Leader (name unknown at the moment).
The detention, we learnt, followed their inability to substantiate their allegations against a neighbouring village, Ibiaku Ishiet.
According to the petition signed by the Community Lawyer, Victor Essien Esq, the Village Council Chairman, Edidiong E. Ubit, together with his Secretary, Victor E. Asuquo were on phone calls with some youths of Ibiaku Ishiet who allegedly revealed plans by Ibiaku to attack Ifa.
The petition accused Ibiaku Ishiet Village Head, Chief William Effong of making frantic moves to launch deadly attack on Ifa and called on the police to investigate and stop them.
The petition further alleged that Ibiaku Ishiet people were pained by the verdict delivered by the Calabar Court of Appeal on case No: CA/C/342/2019, over a land dispute in their favour.
It stated that biaku Ishiet people had ‘relocated’ members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Eastern Security Network (ESN) for a serious attack on the community and Uyo by extension.
We learnt Ibiaku Ishiet people led by the Village Head, Chief William Effong had responded to Police invitation, denying all allegations.
The people had informed the police that the referred case has been appealed and was pending at the Supreme Court.
Again, when both teams were invited for further questions on Friday, the accusers were said to have been detained, after being unable to provide evidence to their claims.
Meanwhile, Ibiaku Ishiet people are said to have provided other incriminating evidence against the Village Head of Ifa Ikot Akpan which allegedly complicated their issues.
Police Public Relations Officer, Akwa Ibom State, SP Odiko McDon could not be immediately reached for reaction.
