The House of Representative Committee has summoned the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio to appear before it to answer for the numerous allegations leveled against him by the erstwhile Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Ms Joi Nunieh.
The panel also re-summoned the Acting NDDC MD of the commission and Chairman of the Interim Management Committee, Prof. Daniel Pondei who earlier led other members of the IMC to walk out of the panel during the last sitting of the committee on the ground that the committee will not get fair hearing from the panel headed by the Chairman who was indicted by the IMC.
Irked by the action, the house issued warrant of arrest against the acting MD and later re-summon him.
The former NDDC boss has accused the Minister and the Interim Management Committee of serial corruption in the commission.
Nunieh also accused the Minister of forcing her to take oath of secrecy to prevent her from exposing the minister’s corrupt practices.
Meanwhile, Senator Akpabio had earlier dismissed the allegations against him by the former NDDC boss through a press release by his media aide, Mr Anietie Ekong.
In the release, Senator Akpabio had said he still love his wife and will never leave her for Nunieh or any other woman for whatever reason describing the allegation as lies and falsehood.
This invitation by the house committee will afford the former senate minority leader the opportunity to defend absolve himself from the many allegations leveled against him by Ms Nunieh and other.
Akpabio has insisted that N40 billion naira is not missing from the commission and that it is not possible for such amount of to be missing in the commission’s account since the account is domiciled in Central Bank of Nigeria.
He also said that he never awarded contract in NDDC except three only.
