Hope alive as retired primary school teachers in Akwa Ibom set for immediate payment of entitlements
PAYMENT OF ENTITLEMENTS TO RETIRED PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHERS/NEXT OF KIN IN AKS
HEAD OF CIVIL SERVICE ASSURES OF IMMEDIATE COMMENCEMENT OF FIRST TRANCHE PAYMENT AS COMMITTEE SUBMITS REPORT
Retired Primary School Teachers/Next of kin in Akwa Ibom State, who were screened in the just concluded Verification Exercise, have been assured of immediate commencement of payment.
The Head of Civil Service, Elder Effiong Essien, gave this assurance in his Office today, Thursday 8/4/2021, while receiving the report from the Committee on Payment of Entitlement s to Retired Primary School Teachers and Next of Kin, set up by the State Governor, Mr. Udom Gabriel Emmanuel, through the Office of the Head of Civil Service, to work out modalities for the settlement of gratuities owed the retired Primary School Teachers.
The Head of Civil Service who expressed his gratitude to God for the successful completion of the verification exercise without any casualties amongst the senior citizens, also thanked the State Governor for approving the release of funds for the commencement of payment of the backlog of entitlements owed the retired Primary School Teachers.
Elder Essien commended the Committee for their concerted effort and timely completion of the exercise. He expressed the hope that all the retirees and the next of kin took advantage of the exercise to get screened to avoid the reptition of pockets of agitations for payment, thereafter, as was previously experienced. He informed that the report will be submitted to the Governor for further action.
Submitting the report, the Chairman of the Committee, who is also the Permanent Secretary, State Universal Education Board, Elder Ezekiel Umoh, informed the Head of Civil Service that every retired teacher and next of kin who appeared for the screening exercise was attended to.
The Committee Chairman thanked the Governor for demonstrating his sincere concerns for the retirees and for the opportunity given them to serve in the Committee.
The Committee, amongst other things, recommended the commencement of payment to the retirees.
High point of the event was the formal presentation of the report to the Head of Civil Service.
