Arise Agenda: Pastor Umo Eno to transform A’Ibom sports sector
As part of the plans by the Akwa Ibom State Governorship Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Pastor Umo Eno to promote socio-political and economic growth is as captured expressly in his ARISE Agenda, the PDP flag-bearer has also hinted on the strategies to transform the sports sector of the state economy.
Other plans in the Arise Agenda that endeared Akwa Ibom people to Pastor Umo Eno candidature are his action plans on:
1. Agricultural Revolution, Rural
2. Development, Infrastructural
3. Maintenance/Advancement
4. Security Management
5. Educational Advancement
Before now, pundits were concerned that nothing was stated expressly about Youths and Sports development. How mistaken that view can be. Fact is, whether it is about the Agricultural Revolution or Rural development and Educational Advancement, the youths in particular are the fulcrum on which the vision is conceived.
Youth engagement in agro allied businesses, entrepreneurship and creating the social infrastructure and local projects that are of economic opportunities for them is the goal.
The stress on pursuit of rural development is intentionally planned to create opportunities for Youths employment and empowerment while arresting rural-urban drift.
However, at the watershed Eket Campaign rally on Thursday 2nd February, 2023, Pastor Umo Eno opened up his game plan for Sports development. He pledged to establish a
Sport Academy in Eket. Permit that we hear his direct position on the matter.
“For starters, this Government has given us a Stadium here in Eket. That Stadium needs an international size swimming pool and courts for basket ball and other sports. The first Sport Academy in the State would be built in Eket Local Government Area, ” Pastor Umo Eno said.
A Sports Academy is a multi-platform, multipurpose environment dedicated to sporting activities and human performance. It is complemented with education and capacity building to enable intakes(humans), improve their skills, activate their gifts and unlock their full potentialities.
Those youths who enroll in the Sports Academy will have the benefit of education while simultaneously updating their knowledge of various sporting activities and maximise human performance.
Pastor Umo Eno said the Eket Stadium will be expanded and improved to host the proposed Academy with provision of world class standard, Swimming pool, Basketball court, Squash court among others.
Other sports including football, track and field events as well as indoor games should already be a guaranteed expectation.
The benefits of a functional Sports Academy will be massive. Discovery of talents, assured quality coaching for skillful youths, tournament preparation and psychological therapy, performance orientation and winning mentality will all be emphasised in the Sports Academy.
It promises to be a Sports business development hub that will see Akwa Ibom create and export future superstars on national and international platforms. They can proceed to become major players in the multi million dollar sports industry.
The ARISE Agenda is worth the buy-in of every well meaning citizen. Pastor Umo Eno is prepared to lead from Day one.
