2023: Cross River CP tasks politicians on peaceful campaigns, elections
The newly posted Commissioner of Police to Cross River State Command, Sule Balarabe has advised political stakeholders in the state to play politics according to the rules while assuring residents of adequate security before, during and after 2023 elections.
CP Sule, gave the assurances on Monday in his command, Diamond Hill Calabar while hosting the executives of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Cross River State Council during a courtesy visit.
In his words, he said, “With Cross River being Nigeria’s tourist destination, it was pertinent to deepen collaboration, professionalism and voluntary information network to ease communication hazards in policing and other needed support to flush out miscreants and criminal elements in the State”
He also stated that “The State Command will conscientiously operate on the principles of justice, equity and fairness, as enshrined in the laws of the land.”
The new Commissioner, who is merely a week in the State, used the opportunity to also advise youths to always shun thuggery, social vices and other forms of violence, calling on political party leaders, stakeholders, and citizens to play the game of politics by the rules and go about their legitimate businesses without fear of molestation.
The Police Commissioner also assured media practitioners of accessibility to adequate security information in their bid for effective dissemination to the public.
He sought enhanced and robust partnerships from members of the public, existing institutions and corporate bodies towards the onerous tasks of safeguarding lives and property for all.
In his reactions, the Chairman, of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Cross River State Council, Comrade Nsa Gill, welcomed the CP to the State and thanked him for the privilege of interfacing with the police on mutually beneficial partnerships.
The NUJ Chairman said the visit was necessary, given the important roles the two bodies play in society, especially with the 2023 elections looming.
He also emphasized that his visit was also to re-establish affinity with reputable organizations aimed at engendering development in society.
The NUJ helmsman assured the CP that media practitioners, under his watch, will continue to adhere strictly to ethical standards at all times in the discharge of duties.
The NUJ Chairman used the event to invite the CP to the forthcoming Cross River State Council NUJ Media Week, which, he informed, will draw attendance from The Who’s Who in the country, notably, the Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje, erstwhile Inspector General of Police, Mr Solomon Arase and other dignitaries.
