FEYReP: 10 rapists convicted in Akwa Ibom in six months
The wife of Akwa Ibom State Government, Dr (Mrs) Martha Udom Emmanuel says not fewer than ten person have been convicted and sentenced to life behind bars for raping and sexually abusing young children in Akwa Ibom state in the last six months through her pet project, Family Empowerment and Youth Reorientation Path-initiative, FEYReP.

The Governor’s wife stated this when she granted audience to select media professionals in her office on Thursday, August 5th, 2021.
The governor’s wife added that many convictions are still in the walks, saying she will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that sexual predators are cut off the society.
Dr. Emmanuel appreciated the Judiciary for always expediting action in the administration of justice and as well thanked the Police for acting swiftly whenever they are called upon.
“I can say authoritatively that in the last six months, and with the help of all involved (Judiciary, Police and FIDA), we have secured conviction of ten culprits of rape and other gender based violence in the state,” she remarked.
Asked why she is so passionate about the campaign against rape in the state, the governor’s wife replied: “What would a 60 year old be looking for in a 2 or 3 year old infant? Is that not devilish? We can’t condone such an abnormal behaviour in our society.”
Speaking on other areas of her intervention, the First Lady remarked that she has in the last six years in office as the governor’s wife, placed premium on the family component of the society, stating that it remains the bedrock of a functional society.
“We believe that if we get it right at the foundational level, the society would have been better off. This is why we have invested so much in many Akwa Ibom families. All are programmes at FEYReP are towards projecting a successful family Unit,” said Emmanuel.
On funding of her projects and the sustainability of FEYReP after office in 2023, she said “We get our funding from good spirited individuals and organisations. They see what we do and trust in us to always deliver. I’ve always said that FEYReP will outlive this administration. We have a structure and if you take a walk down to the office at Ewet Housing Estate, you would see how busy that place is.”
